As Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) gear up for a high-pressure Qualifier 2 clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at Mullanpur on Friday, several individual battles could prove decisive in shaping the contest.
With a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on the line, both teams will rely heavily on their star performers to deliver under pressure. 1. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada
RR’s teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the standout batters of the season. The Orange Cap holder has scored 680 runs at an average of 45.33 and a strike rate of over 242, including a century, four fifties and a record-breaking 65 sixes.
He heads into the contest after a destructive knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator, where he smashed a 29-ball innings featuring five fours and 12 sixes.
The left-hander also enjoys an impressive record against GT, having scored 168 runs in three matches against them at an average of 56 and a strike rate of 233.33, including a century.
Sooryavanshi has additionally handled both Rabada and Siraj confidently. He has scored 25 runs in 14 balls against Rabada and 38 runs in 20 balls against Siraj, according to ESPNCricinfo.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Kagiso Rabada
While Sooryavanshi has thrived, Yashasvi Jaiswal has struggled for consistency in the second half of the tournament.
The left-hander has scored 426 runs in 15 innings with three fifties, but his recent scores of 51, 6, 3, 12, 43, 27 and 29 reflect a dip in form.
Rabada, meanwhile, has enjoyed success against Jaiswal. The South African pacer has dismissed him three times in 27 balls, while conceding just 27 runs at a strike rate of 100.
3. Jofra Archer vs Shubman Gill
RR speedster Jofra Archer could play a crucial role against GT captain Shubman Gill in the powerplay.
Archer has dismissed Gill three times in 30 balls while giving away only 36 runs at an average of 12.00, making it one of the more intriguing battles heading into the match.
Gill, however, has an excellent playoff record. In 12 IPL playoff matches, he has scored 477 runs at an average of 43.36 and a strike rate of over 142, including a century and a fifty.
4. Jos Buttler vs Jofra Archer
GT wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has enjoyed success against his England teammate Archer in T20 cricket.
Buttler has scored 109 runs in 56 balls against Archer at a strike rate of 194.64 and has been dismissed only twice.
He also boasts an impressive IPL playoff record, having scored 263 runs in four innings at an average of 87.66 and a strike rate of 162.34, including a century and a fifty.
5. Sai Sudharsan vs RR bowling attack
Sai Sudharsan has been one of GT’s most dependable batters this season and has also handled Archer effectively.
The left-hander has scored 44 runs in 33 balls against Archer at a strike rate of 133.33 without being dismissed.
